Along the pandemic, US billionaires got rich by $565bn

Since March 18, the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, American billionaires have increased their wealth by a total of more than $500bn, according to the report from the Institute for Policy Studies.
The research involves owners and founders of companies with activities directly related to online commerce and services on the Internet, demand for which sharply rose against the background of the pandemic, reports BGNES.

The authors of the report focus on the fact that the pandemic had an extremely negative impact on the material situation of ordinary Americans. Figures released by the Labor Department are quoted as saying the number of initial applications for unemployment benefits in the United States over the past 11 weeks exceeded 42 million.

At the same time, the report stated that the total wealth of billionaires in the US grew by $565 billion. According to experts, this is 19.15% higher than pre-pandemic data. To date, the total volume of funds held by American billionaires reaches $3.512 trillion. At the same time, experts stress that a number of wealthy people have managed to increase their wealth by over $10bn in almost three months.

The list includes Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos — their fortune grew by $36.2 and $12.6 billion, respectively. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg added $30.1 billion to his account, Tesla and SpaceX boss Rlon Musk — $14.1 billion, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page — $13.9 and $13.7 billion respectively. Microsoft founder Bill Gates has cashed $11.8 billion, while former company CEO Steve Ballmer, with 13.3 billion. Entrepreneur and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg made another $12.1 billion and one of Nike's founders Phil Knight, $11.6 billion.
