The holding of a Bulgarian-Israeli forum in the field of tourism is on the agenda, it can provide an opportunity to promote and deepen the cooperation and contacts of the tourism business of the two countries with the institutional support of the governments of Bulgaria and Israel. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariyana Nikolova to H. E. Yoram Elron, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel. During the meeting, the issue of holding the first session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was also discussed as soon as the epidemiological situation allows it.
The Minister informed that in 2019 over 244 thousand visits of Israeli tourists were reported at the checkpoint. In 2020, more than 50 thousand Israeli tourists were reported in accommodation establishments according to data from the ESTI system.
The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that all this speaks about the importance we attach to Bulgarian-Israeli cooperation in the field of tourism. That is why it is of utmost importance for us and for the interested representatives of the tourism business to reach an agreement on the recognition of vaccination certificates of Israeli citizens wishing to travel to Bulgaria, she stressed. He added that in this regard, the Ministry of Tourism will participate in an expert meeting between representatives of the competent departments in the two countries to discuss this issue. I will rely on your support for exploring the possibility of doing this, Minister Nikolova said.
I highly appreciate you taking the time for this meeting and I would like to note how brave you are to open your borders when Israel was still on the red list, pointed out N. E. Yoram Elron. Bulgaria will always be at the center of our foreign policy and we hope that soon there will be development in the tourism sector. And specified that Israel is a leading market outside the European countries.
We are holding a meeting on the recognition of vaccination certificates and my dream is for Bulgaria to be the first country with which to have mutual recognition of these certificates, added the Ambassador. He stressed that in Bulgaria all measures are being taken for the safety of tourists and that he repeats this everywhere.
