Belene Reactors Rise for the 7th block of Kozloduy (Video)

Reactors for the Belene nuclear power plant can be used to build new power at the Kozloduy site. This is what the expert reports on the economic, environmental and technical possibility of using equipment for the second nuclear plant in Kozloduy. This was what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Kozloduy NPP Executive Director Nasko Mihov spoke about this, the government press service said. Borissov met with the head of the nuclear power plant and congratulated him on today's accession to the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
“After the removal of the old reactors, it is very important that we received a license for the 5th and 6th units of Kozloduy for another ten years,” Prime Minister Borissov noted. Executive Director Mihov reminded that on 7 December 2020 he started work on exploring the possibilities for building a new nuclear capacity at site 2 of the Kozloduy NPP after a decision was issued in February on environmental impact assessment of the project.

According to the expert reports, it is economically, environmentally and technically possible to use the equipment intended for the Belene NPP to be used for new power of Kozloduy, noted during the Prime Minister's Meeting. International experts have also been attracted to the implementation of the project on site 2 of Kozloduy NPP in terms of the required analyses.

Prime Minister Borissov emphasized that the already paid equipment worth 1.3 billion leva for Belene NPP will be able to be used for the seventh reactor of the Kozloduy NPP. “There is an active work on the topic and I will be waiting for a report from the Minister of Energy as soon as tomorrow's government meeting”, Prime Minister Borissov said.

Boyko Borissov added that in its actions the government is guided by the possibilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and we reduce the dependence on imports of energy resources in an optimal and competitive way, in the context of the EU's target for climate neutrality by 2050 and the priorities of the European Green Deal.
