China's electricity consumption rose 18.5% in February

China's electricity consumption, an important barometer of economic activity, rose 18.5 percent in February on an annual basis, amid a continued recovery in the country's economy, according to data from the State Energy Government cited by Radio China.
Total electricity consumption reached 526.4 billion kilowatt-hours last month. In particular, electricity use by primary and secondary industries increased by 26.4% and 22.5% year-on-year respectively, while in the tertiary sector data showed 24.7% growth.

Energy consumption in residential buildings increased by 2.1% compared to the same period last year.

For the first two months of this year, total energy consumption in China amounted to 1.26 trillion kilowatt-hours, which represents a 22.2% year-on-year growth, according to management data.
