Cypriot national airline suspends flights until the end of April

Cypriot national airline Cyprus Airways has decided to cancel all its flights by the end of April, TASS reported, citing a message posted today on the airline's website.
In addition to measures announced by the Cypriot government yesterday to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country, Cyprus Airways is suspending its flight schedules until the end of April 2020. Specifically, the Cypriot airline cancels all flights from Tuesday 17 March until 30 April 2020 inclusive, according to the announcement, BTA reports.

The airline promises that it will inform all passengers concerned with this decision of the cancellation by e-mail and that passengers will be given an alternative in the form of full remuneration of the value of the tickets bought or revalidation at no extra charge for these flights , which will be performed from May 1.

At an emergency government meeting yesterday, it was decided that even stricter rules for crossing the Cypriot border are being introduced from 18 local time today until 30 April. All those who now have permission to enter Cyprus, only residents of the island and foreign nationals accredited in Cyprus, must first submit a certificate with a negative result of a coronavirus test, and then stay for 14 days in quarantine in specially designated locations. In addition, the internal border between Greek and Turkish parts of the island is closed by the end of April.

In addition, the Cabinet has decided at 6pm this evening to suspend private companies and businesses for four weeks. Vital necessary services such as supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries, petrol stations, private medical facilities will continue to operate.
