Decline in Electricity Production in Bulgaria by Over 8%

Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 8.32 percent for the period 01.01.2020 - 12.04.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 12.04.2019. This is shown by the operational data of the Electricity System Operator /ESO/ on the country's energy balance for the time from 1 January to 12 April 2020 compared to the similar period of 2019 published on the operator's website.
Electricity production of 13,026 426 MWh was reported from 1 January 2020 to 12 April. By comparison, in the same period of 2019, production amounted to 14,208,986 MWh.

Consumption in the country decreased by 0.85 percent for the period 01.01.2020 - 12.04.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 12.04.2019, ESO statistics show. 12 211 024 MWh was estimated from the beginning of 2020 until 12 April to 12 April, while for the similar period of 2019 - 12 315 304 MWh, BTA said.

ESO also reported a decrease in electricity exports by 15.86 percent. For the period 01.01.2020 - 12.04.2020 Bulgaria exported 2,283 696 MWh of electricity, while for the similar period of 2019 - 2,714 094 MWh. On the other hand, the import of electricity in Bulgaria increased by 78.97 per cent for that period. From the beginning of this year until 12 April our country imported 1 468 294 MWh of electricity, while for the same period last year - 820 412 MWh, according to ESO statistics.
