EC proposes changes to the budget for response of the COVID-19 epidemic

The European Commission says it is proposing budget changes to the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, providing 75 million euros for the return of European citizens from abroad and for the stockpile of health equipment.
So far, with EU support, 2312 people from China, Japan, the US, Morocco, Tunisia, Georgia, the Philippines and Cape Verde have been returned to Europe. An additional 80 flights for the same purpose are envisaged in the coming days, the committee said in a communication.

EUR 80 million is planned to be directed towards the provision of breathing apparatus, protective masks and other basic equipment. The EC proposes Greece to receive a total of 700m euros for managing migration and that 100m euros should be provided to Albania for reconstruction after last year's earthquake. The EC envisions providing an additional 3.3 million euros for the European Public Prosecutor's Office this year, BTA reports.

The proposals are subject to approval by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
