Electricity production in Bulgaria fell by 8.35% for 2020

Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 8.35 percent for the period 01.01.2020 - 15.11.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 15.11.2019. This shows the latest operational data of the Electricity System Operator (ESO) for the energy balance of the country for the period from 1 January 2020 to 15 November compared to the similar period of 2019, which are published on the operator's website.
From the beginning of the year until 15 November, ESO reported electricity production in a volume of 34 940 795 MWh. For comparison, in the same period in 2019, production amounted to 38 126 208 MWh.

Balance (export-import) for the period 01.01.2020 - 15.11.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 15.11.2019 decreased by 39.68 per cent, the operator data showed.

The consumption in the country decreased by 3.39 percent for the period 01.01.2020 - 15.11.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 15.11.2019, according to ESO statistics. From the beginning of 2020 to November 15 there were 31 792 917 MWh, while for the analogous period of 2019 - 32 907 418 MWh.

Increase in the participation of RES in the transmission network by 11.62 percent, as well as in the distribution network by 6.62 percent, reported by ESO. The biggest contribution to this increase was from wind power plants.

There is a minimum increase in the share of electricity from the HPs by 0.05 per cent for the period 01.01.2020 - 15.11.2020 compared to 01.01.2019 - 15.11.2019, ESO data show.
