For 10 months in Bulgaria - 4.2 million tourists, of them 3 million Bulgarians

From the beginning of the year to October in Bulgaria more than 4.2 million tourists, of which 3 million Bulgarians, announced today Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva before the participants in the fourth edition of the forum “Tourism Expo - Destination Varna”. According to her, during the summer in Varna, over 425 thousand guests stayed in the accommodation with at least 10 places, of which 205 000 Bulgarians. The revenues from the nights of our compatriots in the region are nearly 30 million leva, which is 3 percent more compared to last summer. Among foreigners, the most were Romanians, followed by Poles, Germans, Ukrainians, Czechs, Israelis, British, French, Hungarians.

Tour operators and tour agents will rely on support of BGN 10 million, Georgieva added. According to her, the evaluation period is ongoing and by mid-December they will receive the assistance. 840 tourist enterprises applied for this.

Under the state allocation measure of 35 euros per seat for charter flights, 55 million leva for this year and 2021 were provided, Georgieva said. The expectations are that firms will get their money by the end of the year. The plan is for the measure to act in 2022, added the Deputy Minister.

A mechanism is being developed for providing 3 million leva free of charge to tour guides and mountain guides, pointed out Georgieva. In her words, together with the industry, proposals will be prepared for tourism to be enshrined in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. The aim is for the industry to enter the plan either as a separate pillar or to be included in some of the four already announced, Georgieva said. She added that a working group has been established to make the proposal by the end of the year to be submitted to Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev.
