Karanikolov: The measures taken so far in support of the economy will not be the only

Bulgaria is among the first countries to submit economic measures because of the economic blockage triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. No one has ever said, however, that these will be the only measures, commented Economy Minister Emil Karanikolov, “Investor”.
According to Karanikolov, if in recent years there has been talk of falling unemployment and raising wages, then now more talk will be about what social measures should be taken because of the expected growth of unemployment.

The Economy Minister pointed out that grants are also being prepared under the operational programmes under restructuring. He reminded that the European Commission has eased the requirements for applying and providing these funds. Karanikolov pointed out that Bulgaria has proposed the Commission to cover sectors that are now not included for support. He gave an example of the programme “Innovation and Competitiveness”, under which companies from the tourism sector are not allowed to apply.

The Minister added that Bulgaria has asked the European authorities to put vouchers up to BGN 50 thousand in support of small and micro-enterprises, as well as farmers.
