Minister Nikolova: Over 414,000 Serbs visited Bulgaria in 2019

In these times of unprecedented global challenge, it is extremely important that we preserve our ties and the results achieved in our bilateral cooperation. Before the crisis unfolded, we were pleased to acknowledge that Serbia and Bulgaria had a balanced tourist flow, with the tourism opportunities of our ancient capitals, big cities, mountain resorts, as well as our Black Sea resorts are well known to both Serbs and Bulgarians. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova during the meeting with H. Prof. Prof. Zeljko Jovic, Serbia's ambassador, the Ministry of Tourism said.
In the words of Minister Nikolova, our efforts to improve connectivity, the availability of a direct airplane between Sofia and Belgrade, cooperation in the field of information technology and digitization are important not only at bilateral level, but also in general for the region of the Balkans. I am sure that the potential in terms of the tourist flow between Bulgaria and Serbia is present and we can have even more significant results, she added. The Serbian market is part of the top 10 markets for incoming tourism in Bulgaria, occupies 10th position. In 2019, over 414 thousand Serbian tourists have come to Bulgaria, representing a minimum drop of 1.7% compared to 2018.

If the epidemic situation worsens, let the provision of a negative AKP test remain the only condition for travel, the Deputy Prime Minister said. And stressed that Bulgaria clearly declared its support for the European integration of the Western Balkans, and the topic was raised as a top priority of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU two years ago.

Now the situation is difficult, but it gives a good opportunity for Bulgaria to make an advertisement in Serbia, commented H. Prof. Prof. Jovic. In his words, our winter resorts are well known, but one should focus on the promotion of the Bulgarian sea, about which there is not much information. He also specified that a positive effect for promoting trips to Bulgaria will have the opening of the highway, which is being built and will ease access between the two countries.

The discussion also discussed the possibility of meeting with the Serbian Minister of Tourism in order to comment on the possibilities for deepening cooperation in the sector and promoting bilateral tourist flow.
