The banknote will be in circulation from June 12, 2020 as legal tender, the BNB said.
The general design and basic elements of the banknotes in the new series are preserved without significant changes to the banknotes in circulation, Darik News reported.
The changes relate to the introduction of new security features, which in the banknote with a nominal value of BGN 10 issue 2020 are:
An additional sign for blind citizens — consists of two thick and eight thin lines located at an angle on the two short sides of the banknote.
Hologram bar with optical effects — alternating when changing the angle of observation images of the globe with a telescope and a planet; colourful hologram portrait of Dr. Peter Beron; images of “upright crowned lion” with dynamic effect and volumetric three-dimensional image of the number “10”.
Security thread — embedded in the paper, partially emerging in sectors on the reverse side, with a bright repeating text “BNB 10” and with a diagonal dynamic effect, changing color from golden to green. The image of the recurring text “BNB 10” is read on the front side when placing the banknote against a light source.
High-resolution watermark — observed when placing the banknote against a light source. It consists of a high-resolution halftone image of Dr. Peter Beron's portrait. The image is also observed on the reverse side of the banknote.
The banknotes with a nominal value of BGN 10, issues 1999 and 2008, continue to be in circulation together with the banknotes with a nominal value of BGN 10, issue 2020.
