Nightmare forecast for tourism in Europe

EU tourism could lose half this year's turnover, European Commission figures quoted by Vice President Vera Jourova, according to European agencies.
The Commission today discussed the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on European tourism. Jourová pointed out that tourism provides 10 per cent of European GDP and employment for 27 million people.

In her words, the Commission is about to propose legislative changes related to compensation for cancellations. Jurova pointed out that voucher benefits should be made more attractive to passengers, so as not to insist on reimbursement of tickets from outstanding flights.

According to the EC it is necessary that EU countries, when they lift restrictions on border crossings, do not miss travellers according to their citizenship. The Commission insists that barriers to crossing borders should be removed as soon as possible. Jourova clarified that the opening of the EU's external borders remains a question for further.
