Nikolova to the Turkish Minister of Tourism: We respect all measures

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova spoke with Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Ersoy. With his Turkish counterpart, they discussed opportunities for joint initiatives between the two countries, the tourism ministry said.
Our strategic geographic position, the investments that both Bulgaria and Turkey have made in improving transport connectivity, the favorable conditions and incentives we provide to the business, give their impact — today Turkey is among the five largest trading partners of Bulgaria, said Deputy Prime Minister. And he specified that the amount of bilateral commodity turnover is nearly $5 billion a year.

The two ministers also discussed health security, as Minister Nikolova explained that all anti-epidemic measures are observed in Bulgaria. This was reported by organizations such as the World Travel and Tourism Council, which certified Bulgaria with a seal for a secure destination, she further explained. Deputy Prime Minister Nikolova proposed to her Turkish counterpart jointly appeal to other counterparts from the Balkan countries that the borders remain open and that no quarantine should be introduced. She briefed the Turkish minister on tourist travel between the two countries and expressed hopes that even better results could be achieved after the COVID-19 crisis. For his part Mr Ersoy noted that in the conditions of a pandemic with Bulgarian tourists there are no problems and the flow to Turkey is large. According to him, Turkish travel companies are interested in investing in Bulgaria and the rest of Europe. Deputy Prime Minister Nikolova received an invitation to familiarize herself with the anti-epidemic measures introduced. The Turkish Ministry has campaigned for their promotion through videos and noted that creating a sense of security for tourists is of particular important.Minister Nikolova invited her host to visit Bulgaria for the third meeting of the Mixed Committee on tourism. Turkish Minister Ersoy thanked and reiterated his desire to participate in the event.

In conclusion, Minister Ersoy commented that relations between Bulgaria and Turkey are very good and through culture and tourism can be raised to a higher level. He thanked Bulgaria for the support his country receives on its way to the EU.
