The bills for heating in March - the high cost of thermal energy

The clients of Toplofikatsiya Sofia EAD will receive during this week their monthly announcements about the March bills for heating and hot water, Toplofikatsiya - Sofia EAD said. Accounts are available to consumers in customer centers and on the internet from April 14.
According to NIMH data, the average monthly temperature in March was +6.4 degrees or 2.3 degrees lower compared to the same month of the previous year. Since the start of the state of emergency in the country on March 13th, most of the capitals have remained in their homes, as a result of which the total amount of heat consumed is higher. Due to the lower temperature and cold in the last ten-day of March this year, metropolitans consumed 430 323 MWh of thermal energy, while in March 2019 the consumption was 346 945 MWh., according to the district heating company.

From “Toplofikatsiya - Sofia” added that the March bills were calculated according to the high cost of thermal energy, which was operating until April 1, 2020. The new price of heat energy, approved by EWRC, is in force from 1 April and is 26.5 percent lower - 70.32 BGN per megawatt hour /excluding VAT/. Therefore, lower bills are expected for the last month of the heating season.

Customer accounts are prepared according to the requirements of the current Heat Supply Ordinance. The estimated monthly bills for the current heating season are formed on the basis of the actual consumption in each individual property for the previous heating season, reflected in the final equalization account for the period 1.05.2018 - 30.04.2019. The actual amount of heat energy consumed in each dwelling will be accounted for after the end of the heating season 2019-2020 and the annual countervailing accounts will be prepared on this basis. The exception is the users with a real monthly report, specified by “Toplofikatsiya - Sofia”.

In compliance with the new provisions adopted days ago with the amendments to the Energy Act, “Toplofikatsiya Sofia” will make a recalculation of the accounts of its customers within the statutory deadlines and after the EWRC has determined the retroactive prices of natural gas and heat energy for the period of August 5, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Thus, customers who have a monthly real report of their equity units will receive the amounts already with their first monthly bills after the approval of retroactive prices by EWRC. For other users receiving estimated monthly bills, the amounts will be reflected in the annual equalisation accounts and will be prominent in July, the announcement added.
