The collapse of the trips of Bulgarians abroad and foreigners in Bulgaria continues

In April 2020, the collapse of the trips of Bulgarian citizens abroad and the visits of foreigners to Bulgaria continues due to the suspension of international flights and the closure of land borders due to the worldwide spread of coronavirus COVID-19, reported National Statistical Institute.
In April 2020, the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 75.3 thousand or by 87.9 percent below the registered in April 2019. Compared to March 2020, the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad dropped by 67.4 percent.

In April 2020, the number of arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria was 81.2 thousand or by 88.9 percent less compared to April 2019. Compared to March 2020, the decline is by 74.1 per cent. The collapse was registered on the trips for all observed purposes: “holiday and excursion” - by 99.8 per cent, “official” - by 84.5 per cent, and “other” (incl. visits and transit passes) - by 80.6 per cent. Transit passes through the country are 62.9 percent (51.1 thousand) of all foreign visits to Bulgaria.

Of the total number of foreigners visiting Bulgaria in April 2020, the share of citizens from the European Union is 34.5 per cent, or 93.1 per cent less compared to the same month of the previous year. A decrease in visits of citizens from all monitored countries was recorded. Visits of citizens from the Other European Countries group decreased by 81.5 per cent.
