The agreement was signed in Ankara by Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsan Pekcan and Britain's ambassador to Turkey Dominic Chilkot, BTA reports.
"The free trade agreement with Britain will be a pledge for future economic cooperation between the two countries. We are delighted to be fulfilling the promise we made to representatives of Turkish and British businesses. This agreement will become a significant event in relations between the two countries. It enters into force on 1 January 2021 and will relate to all types of industrial and agricultural production, "Pekcan stressed.
The conclusion of such an agreement became necessary because of Britain's exit from the European Union, with which Turkey has an agreement on a customs union. On December 24, the EU and Britain reached an agreement on their relationship after the expiration of December 31 of the post-Brexit transition period, TASS reminds.
