Turkey raises minimum wage by 21.56%

Turkey is raising the minimum wage by 21.56% since January 1st, the country's minister of family, labour and social services announced on Monday, global news agencies report.

The monthly net minimum wage increases to 2,826 Turkish Lira (BGN 608) compared to the current 2,324 Turkish Lira (BGN 500)

The new gross minimum wage, before deductions such as social security premiums and income taxes, will reach 3,578 Turkish Lira (770 BGN)

The wage increase was 7 percent higher than inflation in Turkey in November.

About half of all workers in the country with a population of 83 million people work at or near minimum wage, according to a survey by the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey.
