Turkey with a big drop in the number of tourists and tourism revenues

Turkey's tourism sector suffered a major hit in the first three months of 2021, when visitor numbers and revenues fell significantly, DPA quoted Turkey's Turkstat institute.
The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey in January-March shrank 53.9 percent from the same period in 2020. Tourism revenues also fell by over 40 per cent over the period considered, the data showed, BTA reports.

The majority of visitors who arrived in the country had organized all-inclusive packages, added the statistical institute.

At the same time, Turks who traveled abroad in the first quarter were 84 percent less.

Travel restrictions have had a disruptive effect on Turkey's tourism in 2020, a major source of revenue for the country's economy.

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD/), 7.7 percent of the employment in the country in 2018 was due to tourism. Tourism revenues accounted for 3.8 percent of Turkey's GDP in the same year.
