US gives Ukraine $1.2m to fight coronavirus

US Agency for International Development USAID is giving Ukraine $1.2 million to combat the spread of the coronavirus, the institution's representation in Ukraine said today, quoted by TASS.
“The US government is giving Ukraine medical and humanitarian assistance to limit the spread of Covid-19", the agency said.

It is noted that USAID coordinates its actions with the Ukrainian government, with other international partners in the field of humanitarian aid and with other stakeholders in order to determine the primary directions for the use of these resources, BTA reported.

Yesterday the EU said it would support Ukraine and set aside 80 million euros for the fight against the coronavirus.

To date, 549 cases of outbreak have been recorded in Ukraine, 13 people have died and 9 have been recovered.

The country is under quarantine, which began on March 17 and will run until April 24. Since March 26, the entire territory of Ukraine has been introduced a regime of emergency.

Earlier, Ukraine's Prime Minister Denis Shmigal announced that a stabilisation fund will be established in the country to fight the coronavirus and its effects in the amount of 200 billion hryvnia (about $7.2 billion).
